September is REALTOR® Safety Month

REALTORS® face job-related risks every day. Being aware of potential dangers and taking precautions help to avoid risky situations. In an ongoing effort to keep safety top-of-mind for you, our REALTOR® members, the National Association of REALTORS® and the California Desert Association of REALTORS® dedicate September as REALTOR® Safety Month. The goal: reduce the number of safety incidents that happen in the industry so that each and every one of our members makes it home safely every night.

To accomplish this goal together with you, we must improve the Safety Culture in the industry by raising awareness, following safety protocols and encouraging all REALTORS® to stay vigilant on the job. To get started, here are five Safety Action Items for REALTORS®:

  • PLANNING YOUR SAFETY STRATEGY. The goal of NAR’s REALTOR® Safety Program is to educate members about the potential dangers you face on the job, so you are not only aware, but also prepared to keep yourself safe and reduce the risks, so you come home safely to your family every night. This is done by creating and implementing a Safety Strategy that you follow every day, with every client, every time.
  • SAFETY TIPS & BEST PRACTICES. NAR provides safety tips and tricks through sharable graphics and interactive media, which can be found at the link.
  • SAFETY TRAINING VIDEOS. View videos from NAR’s REALTOR® Safety Program with tips and advice on how to keep you and your business safe.
  • REALTOR® SAFETY WEBINARS. Make sure you understand the risks, learn the warning signs, and know how to avoid becoming a victim. Watch NAR’s library of webinars on-demand and hear from industry experts covering topics like REALTOR® safety, client protection, and mental wellness.
  • RESOURCES FOR PERSONAL PROTECTION. As a REALTOR®, it’s important you have a personal safety protocol in place that you use every day with every client, like when meeting new clients, showing properties or sharing information online. There are a variety of tools you can add to your personal safety protocol, such as the smartphone apps and safety products listed here. (Note: safety applications and products listed at the link are for informational purposes and have not been endorsed nor vetted by CDAR or NAR.)
  • TAKE THE REALTOR® SAFETY PLEDGE. To inspire REALTORS® and REALTOR® Associations to keep safety top of mind and implemented into daily business protocols, the National Association of REALTORS® encourages associations and our members to make a pledge to REALTOR® Safety.

All month long, you will be seeing messaging from CDAR, the California Association of REALTORS® and NAR empowering you to take action with a variety of resources, including Safety Tips, details about upcoming Safety webinars, and more.

Thank you for your dedication to REALTOR® Safety – both this month and throughout the year. Safety is a healthy habit that could save your life. Be aware. Keep alert. And above all else…stay safe!

The SafeShowings App – Staying Safe in the Field

SafeShowings is a CDAR REALTOR® member benefit designed to help agents be safe out in the field, while also providing protection for your clients!

What is SafeShowings?

SafeShowings is an app designed to keep REALTORS® and their clients safe during showings, listings appointments, meeting prospective clients, and more. Through the app, you’ll capture an image of your client’s face, which adds a layer of protection should any emergency occur with your client. You’ll create an emergency contact list, so that you can mark yourself safe or send an alert to your contacts list if you are not heard from within an allotted amount of time. This is all designed to give your seller security. SafeShowings deters criminal behavior through its actions.
