New Member FAQ

Below are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions we receive. If you don't find the answers you're looking for here, please don't hesitate to contact our Member Services Department. 

How do I get a real estate license? 

The first step in getting a real estate license is to contact the California Bureau of Real Estate.  http://bre.ca.gov/

If I just passed the real estate test, can I join the Association?

 Technically, no.  You'll need your actual license number - which may take 4-6 weeks to be activated online after your test.

How much are dues?

The dues you pay are based on your level of membership with our Association (Designated REALTOR®, Non-Designated REALTOR,® or Affiliate). The current fees are posted on our site.

When are the annual dues due?

Yearly membership renewals are due December 31st, but CDAR allows a 30-day grace period without penalty.

What is a LFRO office?

A Limited Function Referral Office (LFRO) is a separate entity from a Broker's real estate firm (must have a DBA registred with the CalBRE) which is engaged exclusively in soliciting and/or referring clients and customers to the REALTOR® for consideration on a substantially exclusive basis.

When is new member orientation?

New member orientation is usually offered once a quarter. However, we encourage you to contact the Member Services Department  to confirm for the specific month in question.

How do I get a keycard/or keybox?

When you join our Association you have the opportunity to lease a SUPRA key. Please note that your key card lease with our SUPRA  is renewable on Mach of each year. In addition to the key card, you can also purchase electronic lock boxes in our REALTOR® Store. You can also have this service in your iPhone or Android.

How do I get ZipForm?

ZipForms is a free Member benefit.  You can also purchase ZipForms through the California Association of REALTORS®.  The cost is $749 annually for the desktop-only licence and $999 annually for the online-only licence.  You can purchase them through this website:  http://www.car.org/tools/zipform/zfnm/

Affiliate Dues

HomeTown prorates its dues based on the month you join our Association. Below is a total amount due for each month, including a detailed list of the items/costs that are contained within your dues.

Affiliates are real estate owners and other individuals of firms who, while not engaged in the real estate profession, have interests requiring information concerning real estate, and are in sympathy with the objectives of the Association.

Associate Affiliates are employees of, or associated with, Affiliate members and are employed by or associated with the same firm as the Affiliate member. The Affiliate member must be in good standing with the Association in order for an Associate Affiliate member to apply for and maintain membership.

REALTOR Dues

HomeTown prorates its dues based on the month of your sponsorship. Below is a total amount due for each month, including a detailed list of the items/costs that are contained within your dues.

A Non-Designated REALTOR® is a licensed Salesperson who is sponsored by a Designated REALTOR®. 

Monthly Dues ProRated

  • January $1,200
  • February $1,100
  • March $1,000
  • April $900
  • May $800
  • June $700
  • July $600

 

Designated REALTOR Dues

A Designated REALTOR® is a licensed Broker who is the responsible member for at least one office.
