The Biennial Code of Ethics

THE NAR CODE OF ETHICS REQUIREMENT!

Complete your training by the deadline to avoid suspension of membership!

As many REALTOR® members are already aware, the National Association of REALTORS® is requiring all REALTOR® members to take their Code of Ethics training every two years. The deadline for the current cycle is the end of the year on December 31, 2020, which means you must complete your Code of Ethics training for this cycle if you have not already done so.

A few tips to consider...

The cycle is now every two years. Previously, the cycle for REALTOR® members was every four years, which allowed for license renewals to cover the cycle period. However, the cycle frequency was changed to two years, taking effect in January 2017.

There are a number of ways you can complete it. If your license renewal falls within the cycle period, taking a class to renew will satisfy the requirement. You can take it for free above or having completed an orientation or ethics class at this or another association. To make sure for certain if you've satisfied the requirement, however...

 ...you can check to see if you've completed the requirement online. By logging into your nar.realtor account, you can click on "My Account," and then on "Manage Account." Unde the "Other Links" view your education records (NRDS) and look for the following codes: COEC 2019C6 and COEC2020C6. If you do not see either, you need to complete the Ethics requirement. (If you see COEN 20191 or COEN 20201, that means you are a new member and that signifies you have completed the requirement.)

• You can also contact CDAR to find out if you've completed the requirement. Just give us a call and we will check for you.

NAR Emeritus members do NOT have to complete the requirement. This only applies to NAR Emeritus, however. All other active REALTOR® members must complete the requirements if they have yet to do so.

• It's really easy to do. Seriously, you can take the free class offered above, you can take any number of classes offered by the California Association of REALTORS®, or you can check with CDAR to see about ethics courses we are holding from now until the end of the year (availability may vary).

 As a prerequisite to selling real estate, a person must be licensed by the state in which they work, either as an agent/salesperson or as a broker. Before a license is issued, minimum standards for education, examinations and experience, which are determined on a state by state basis, must be met. After receiving a real estate license, most agents go on to join their local board or association of REALTORS® and the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®, the world's largest professional trade association. They can then call themselves REALTORS®.

 The term "REALTOR®" is a registered collective membership mark that identifies a real estate professional who is a member of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS® and subscribes to its strict Code of Ethics (which in many cases goes beyond state law). In most areas, it is the REALTOR® who shares information on the homes they are marketing, through a Multiple Listing Service (MLS). Working with a REALTOR® who belongs to an MLS will give you access to the greatest number of homes.

Why Use A REALTOR®?

CDAR & PSRAR Merger Meeting Monthly Update

The California Desert Association of REALTORS® (CDAR) and the Palm Springs Regional Association of REALTORS® (PSRAR), at the direction of their respective Boards of Directors, have together formed two task forces - Association Merger Task Force and Joint MLS Task Force.

Although each task force has a specific area of focus, the objective of both is to best serve the brokers, agents, consumers and our desert communities. Both task forces have been working hard to bring new options and opportunities for member consideration.

Once the Association Merger Task Force finalizes its work, and the CDAR and PSRAR Boards of Directors approves all details of the merger, the membership of the respective Associations will vote on the merger and the merger details. Each Association will be sending out monthly updates to the membership on the progress made that month.
